Contra Costa Arrests Today
The Sheriff's Office runs an official Inmate Reports landing page. It publishes no running list of the prior day or two. There is no stated posting hour, refresh rate, or weekend schedule. The live tool is the Individual in Custody Locator. That search answers a narrow question. It tells you whether a named person sits in Sheriff custody right now.
Arrest and booking are not the same moment. An arrest happens on the street or at the station. Booking is intake, where the jail assigns an identifier and records charges. The county's older report kept arrest date and time apart. Booking date and time were listed separately. A very fresh arrest may not be searchable yet. A quick citation or release can leave no booking at all. A later custody search would then come up empty.
The official Contra Costa County custody search shows the form used for current checks.
The screen shows a search tool. It sits on the sheriff's official page. No names or booking photos appear. You look up each arrested person yourself.
Check Contra Costa Same-Day Bookings
Start with the narrowest check. The locator wants a full first and last name or a numeric booking number. Skip the hyphen when you type a booking number. The form also runs reCAPTCHA. Match the legal name used at intake, since nicknames, misspellings, or a record created minutes ago can all return nothing.
- Open the Sheriff Individual in Custody Locator.
- Enter the full first and last name, or use the booking number without a hyphen.
- Complete reCAPTCHA and compare any match with the expected facility and booking context.
- If the arrest was very recent, repeat the official check later and use VINELink California as a second custody-status source.
- For a time-sensitive confirmation, call the published inmate-information line at (925) 646-4493. The custody FAQ separately lists (925) 646-4496, so note which office answers.
- For an identified record after release, contact Custody Administrative Services or Records & ID.
Sheriff custody stretches across four sites and alternatives. Martinez is only one of them. The system also covers West County, Marsh Creek, and other custody options, so an arrest does not always mean a Martinez booking. The Contra Costa County recent arrests hub walks through the booking and records routes in more depth.
Daily Arrest Report Fields
The table splits its fields in two. One group appears on the live locator itself. The other group comes from the county's older arrest report. Treat the second set as historic, since the current search may not return every item.
| Field | Verified meaning and limit |
|---|---|
| Full first and last name | Current locator search input; use the legal name rather than a nickname. |
| Booking number | Current locator search input; the interface calls for a numeric value without a hyphen. |
| Arrest date and time | Present in the historic official report and distinct from booking time; not guaranteed on the current form. |
| Book date and time | Historic report field that shows when jail processing was recorded. |
| Charge code and description | Historic report fields describing charges at booking, not a conviction or final charge. |
| Release date and type | Historic report fields; absence from current custody does not explain why a person left. |
| Booking photo | No public photo field or official locator photo policy was verified. |
Some details can be withheld. Victim privacy may block them. An open investigation, juvenile protections, or another law can too. A blank field is not a system failure. Ask the custodian for the public portions of a booking sheet or photo. Those are the parts that can be shared once protected material comes out.
When Contra Costa Arrests Lag
An empty result can mean several things. The person may still be with the arresting agency. They may be awaiting intake, cited and released, or transferred. Another county may be holding them. A different spelling can hide them too. And of course, no qualifying record may exist at all. The sheriff publishes no refresh interval. Nobody can say when a new booking should surface.
Match your fallback to the question. For current custody, check the locator, then call the Sheriff. For release or transfer alerts, use the VINELink Inmate Check. For history, read the Weekly Arrest Log. Is the person out of custody? Do you need the record itself? Send the custodian the legal name and the approximate arrest or booking date. Add the facility if known. Include the booking number if you have one.
The Contra Costa County Public Records page covers request routing and response timing. It also covers fees and exemptions under the California Public Records Act.
Use this page for defined record requests. It is not an urgent custody check. The locator and a phone call answer that need faster. Think of it as the paperwork route, not the emergency route.
No Sheriff Arrest App
The sheriff's office offers no official arrest app. No app-only photo feed exists either. Steer clear of apps that borrow the agency's name or recycle scraped booking data. The real tools are simple. They are the website locator, the VINE page, the custody phone lines, and the records custodians.
VINELink is an alert aid, not an arrest report. The California VINELink landing page handles search and registration for a specific person.
The state screen is the mobile-friendly route. It needs no Sheriff-branded download. Unofficial apps can't match that reliability. Note: VINELink may lag, so confirm directly with the jail or seek emergency help when it matters.
Contra Costa Charges Need Court Review
An arrest record reflects the charge logged at intake. That charge can change. Prosecutors may file, reduce, amend, divert, or dismiss it. Case activity lives with the court, not the jail. The Contra Costa Superior Court criminal-record route is the later source, though minutes, orders, and case documents may require a records request.
An arrest result answers one question well: where a person stands right now. Use it to confirm location or custody status and nothing more. A name drops off the Contra Costa locator. The case has not gone away with it. Release can follow bail, a citation, a transfer, a court order, or time served. A vanished entry can mean almost anything.
Chasing same-day answers takes a little discipline. Write down when each office or site was checked. Note the exact spelling searched, any booking number, and who you spoke with. That trail pays off later. It separates a fresh booking still being processed from an old record or a transfer. It also rules out a different person who shares the name.
Note: The public locator lists no booking photo as a standard field, so a search result alone does not imply an image exists.
